Today I talk about clearing out some old papers to find ideas scribbled down on some sticky notes. I’m happy when I realise I’m starting to put old plans into place and take steps towards realising my creative vision.
I decided to do a little cleaning out today. I noticed that lately, I’ve been bringing more stuff into my flat than I’ve been taking out and it so it means that I’ve collected a few piles of papers and boxes and little things like that.
So, I decided to clean those things out, but once I got started, I kept going. I cleaned out some things I had under the sofa, and things I had surrounding my desk in the living room, and I found a few things I had worked on a few years ago.
A few years ago when I was teaching I took a break and I went to Spain for a week. I went to Madrid and then I went to Malaga. During that time I was doing a little introspection. So, I did just a few exercises to think about where I wanted to take things professionally and some of the feelings that I had about my life in general. I ended up putting together a few sheets of paper with Post-its and just wrote down a few words thinking about the direction I wanted to take with teaching and with life. I was thinking about creativity and my message and what I wanted to communicate.
The thing that is really nice, actually, about finding this piece of paper is that I feel like I am starting to do some of the stuff that I had set out to do, our thought about doing at that point. I hadn’t really set out just yet. And if feels really good. I feel really good to find that.
I didn’t expect to find it. I wasn’t even looking for it. But it’s nice to take a look at those big sheets of paper and see that I was starting to put ideas down and not really know where I was going to take them. I don’t think I really had an idea of what it would look like. I think I was starting to imagine what it might look like. But, I don’t think I had any idea that it would end up looking like how it looks now.
It just makes me think what else is out there for me, and that’s an exciting thought.
I kind of want to revisit the exercise a little bit maybe, but I don’t want to get distracted because I feel like I am headed on a good path and I don’t want to spend too much time thinking at this moment. I want to kind of focus on the doing, but I also think it’s nice to check-in and just make sure that the things I am working on are aligned with the bigger vision that I have.
